1966 Volvo P1800 S -- Restored

Year:  1966
Make:  Volvo
Model:  P1800 S
Price:  $17,600

Description:

Volvo hit a styling home run when it introduced the P 1800 and this restored ’66 S model is a wonderful example of this marque. A frequent show winner, this P 1800 S was given a frame up restoration that included a motor rebuilt (see pictures), new Fly Yellow paint, and new upholstery. This car drives as nice as it looks.

This is reported by the owner to be a numbers-matching vehicle. Mechanically, the engine has been rebuilt (see pictures), and all the rest of the drivetrain has been serviced/repaired as required. In the 1966 model year, the “S” was equipped with a 4 cylinder engine displacing 121 cu.in. and developing 118 h.p. The 4-speed transmission has synchro in all four gears as well as electric overdrive. The car has power-assisted front disk brakes and rear drum brakes. This P 1800 S starts, drives and stops as it should.

The interior has been restored with new front leather seats, a new vinyl rear seat (per the original specifications), and a new top dash cover. The carpets were replaced and are in excellent condition as are the interior door panels. All the gauges work, as do the radio and heater. The only two minor flaws noted in the interior are a slightly cracked portion of the top edge of the driver’s door vinyl and the clock needs servicing. Both the engine compartment and the trunk are extremely clean (see photos).

The exterior is a show stopper with the Fly Yellow finish offset by the wonderful lines of the chrome. The paint is good with a slight cracking in one small area on the left rear fender and some shadows on the hood that appear under certain lighting conditions. Most of the chrome has been replated and looks as new. All of the glass is very good.

As would be expected, all of the safety features on the car (lights, wipers, horn) work properly. Moreover, this P 1800 has 4 brand new 165 R 15 radial tires and a spare in very good condition.

In sum, this is one of the nicest P 1800s you will find—mechanically and cosmetically—and is being sold at a fraction of the cost that would be required to restore one to this level of perfection. If you like P 1800s, you will love this one.
