Description:
This 1958 Mercury Park Lane is in good running condition and largely
original with 74,504 miles showing on the odometer and verified by the
title. From the very good chrome to the generally good—but in need of a
cleaning, interior—this is a car that would appeal to any ‘50’s Mercury
fan for its originality. With a new paint job and some brake work, this
Park Lane would be ready for the weekly cruise-ins.
The car’s body is in very-good to excellent condition, having all of its
trim, very good chrome, excellent lenses and glass, and factory rear
wheel skirts. The underside is clean with almost no signs of rust. It
will need a fresh paint job to replace what may be the original lacquer
paint.
Almost everything on this car works, from its clock to its after-market
FrigiKing air conditioner (which blows cold!). The car has properly
working power steering, power windows, power antenna (although the radio
does not appear to be functioning). The car has power brakes but they
will require repair to the booster to function properly. There is an
original factory instruction manual in the glove compartment and the
original liner in the trunk, together with the original jack and jack
instructions.
This car is equipped with the 430 cubic inch/360 horsepower engine and a
push-button transmission which shifts properly. There are also four
Coker Classic wide whitewall 215/75R/14 radial tires mounted on the car
that appear to have very little wear.
Apart from the paint, there are a few cosmetic items that show wear. As
mentioned, the front bench seat needs cleaning, and there is a place on
the side of the seat that has been abraded by seatbelt use. The padding
over the glovebox in the center of the dash needs freshening, but the
vinyl fabric covering it is very nice—as is the rest of the dash. There
is a 2” hole in the headliner next to the driver’s sun visor and a 1”
hole in the right rear of the headliner, and a hole in the rear carpet
on the left side. The carpet is also stained in several places.
To sum up this car’s condition, it is a largely original, heavily
equipped car on which almost everything works but which requires
cosmetic attention and brake work. For a 48 year old unrestored car,
that’s saying a lot.
The car is on consignment to us and represents a solid example of
Mercury’s 1958 flagship.
