Description:
The 1979 Indy Pace Car was a limited edition car for Mustang, with
special decals and other factory-added features that set these cars
apart from the regular Mustang series. As one would expect, with
only 16,000+ miles this Pace Car runs like a new car despite being 28
years old
A distinctive feature of the Pace Cars was that they were finished in
Pewter with emblems and racing stripes that set them apart visually from
the rest of the line. The finish is in very good condition but for a
very small dimple and some blemishes on the hood, together with a few
chips here and there. The body is in excellent condition, and all of the
gaps are good.
The engine is a 2.3 liter four cylinder with a turbo charger, providing
tons of boost while being stingy with fuel. The engine starts right up
and runs great, as befits a 16,000 mile car. The transmission is a
4-speed manual that shifts smoothly both going up and down through the
gears. The car features power steering, power front disk brakes, and
tracks straight and true. The factory special handling suspension
provides great road stability.
The interior features Recaro reclining front bucket seats that provide
plenty of support and comfort. The black and white checked upholstery is
attractive and in excellent condition, with no tears or worn spots. This
car has factory air conditioning that blows cold. Overhead is a
flip-open sun roof with a sunshade. All of the lights and safety
features of the car function properly. The factory premium sound system
features an AM/FM/Cassette radio with a removable woofer behind the back
seats.
The wheels are the original forged aluminum style and feature oversized
Michelin TRX 220/55HR 360 tires all around. The wheels and tires are in
like new condition.
These Pace Cars are hard enough to find in good condition and almost
IMPOSSIBLE to find with only 16,300 original miles! This is a great
example of a limited edition Mustang that is virtually “as new”.
