1970 Jaguar XKE Roadster

Year:  1970
Make:  Jaguar
Model:  E-Type Roadster
Price:  $33,900

Description:

The 1970 Jaguar XKE was the final full production year for the popular and reliable six cylinder DOHC engine. This E-type roadster is a nice example of the power and pleasure associated with driving this great marque.

Finished in a recent burgundy respray of the original color, this car is truly an eye-catcher. The paint has a deep luster, with no chips or dings.

The biscuit leather interior is the perfect complement to the exterior color. The seats are in nice condition, free from rips or separations. The tan canvas top looks almost new, with one minor tear in the interior header panel that is barely noticeable and does not affect the exterior of the top. The top boot is brand new and provides a nice finishing touch to what many believe is the nicest looking convertible ever produced.

Under the bonnet waits the 4.2 twin cam engine developing 265 h.p. and 283 ft.lbs. of torque. The engine starts right up and runs strong down the straights or through the curves. Jaguar’s 4-speed full synchromesh transmission puts all that power at the fingertips of the driver. This roadster tracks straight and true without wobbling or wandering. The rear brakes and rotors were recently replaced.

All of the gauges function properly. The lights, wipers and safety features all work properly, save the horn. The clock and XM radio have succumbed to time and weather, and neither is presently functioning.

The car rides on chrome wire wheels equipped with Continental 205/70R 15 tires that are like new.

This is a car that the current owner has spared no expense in repairing, maintaining and keeping garaged in a temperature controlled facility when he was on deployment. To that end, in addition to the respray of the finish and rebuild of the rear braking system, the car has had deteriorated floor pans replaced and other required sheet metal work done prior to the paint work. There is also evidence of rust repairs on the underside of the car. We have fully serviced and inspected the car, remedying a few remaining needs.

If there is anything more pleasing than seeing this XKE motoring down the byways of rural Virginia, it is driving the car yourself with the top down, the sky overhead and the growl of a Jaguar’s engine in your ear. Whether a trip to the golf course or an escape into the countryside, this is one car that is a different breed of cat!
