1971 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ 455 Price: $19,995
|Model:||Grand Prix SJ|
Performance and Luxury
The 1971 Grand Prix SJ 455 is a perfect blend of impressive acceleration with all the luxury one could ask for in a muscle car. This is a low-mileage car that is equally at home rocketing away from a traffic light as it is going to dinner at the country club. And all for the price of a new Honda.
This Pontiac has been meticulously restored to make this 40-year old classic aesthetically perfect and totally reliable for an owner who wanted a low-mileage replica of the car he had when he was younger. The work involved a high-quality repaint, the rebuilding of the engine and transmission, the top-to-bottom detailing of the vehicle, and the assurance that all of the car’s systems are operating as they did when it left the factory in 1971.
· Paint, Body and Chrome
This Grand Prix was treated to an excellent repaint in Cranberry about three years ago that would put the original factory finish to shame. There are two minor abrasions that should buff right out. The brilliance of the body color is a perfect complement to the Parchment-Gold vinyl top giving the car immediate visual appeal.
The chrome is all in very good to excellent condition, further enhancing the curb appeal of this classic.
The underside of the car is free from rust and shows the fruits of the detailing labor that was put into preparing it for the new owner.
The Parchment interior upholstery is in excellent condition and is largely original. And of course the seats and door panels are showroom clean without holes, separations or apparent wear, as is the carpeting.
The dash pad is in excellent condition—neither faded nor cracked. The headliner is in good condition without any drooping or tears but with a slight bit of staining towards the rear.
This car has a center console housing the floor mounted gear shift lever.
Mechanically Excellent and Upgraded
Our Grand Prix is in excellent mechanical condition, with both the internal elements of the engine and the transmission having been professionally inspected and found to be operating as they should. While that engine inspection was being done, a new oil pump and screen were installed along with the full Edelbrock Performer Power Package which includes intake manifold, carburetor, camshaft and timing chain. The performance of the 455 cid big block engine was further enhanced by the addition of headers and a full Flowmaster exhaust system. Very little mileage has been put on the car since that work was done.
The car has a set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 P255/60R15 tires that look new. The tires are mounted on Pontiac “snow flake” wheels. There are power brakes—disc on the front and drum on the rear—which help tame all of the car’s power, and of course the Grand Prix is equipped with power steering, power windows and a tilt steering wheel.
The odometer reads 51,274 and the title shows the mileage as “actual”.
A “No Excuses” Grand Prix
This is a performance/luxury car that is ready to go. Not only does all of its safety equipment work, everything but the backup lights works from the air conditioning to the upgraded sound system with wireless controls. All you need to enjoy this car is the ignition key!
