Description:
The Cadillac marque has always denoted quality and elegance, and
nowhere is that more true than in this beautiful 1968 Coupe de Ville.
The condition of the exterior, interior and mechanical systems are all
consistent with a luxury car that has traveled less than 47,000 miles
since it left the showroom in the care of a proud, new owner.
This Coupe de Ville was beautifully refinished to match the original San
Mateo Red that looks at least as good as it did in 1968. When the car
was refinished, a new black vinyl top was installed that is perfect in
fit and color, that looks as if it were done yesterday! The body is
straight and true and the only evidence of rust—other than frame surface
rust—is a few small bubbles under the paint in front of the left rear
wheel and a small amount of pre-paint repair that was done just in front
of the rear bumper on both sides. The chrome sparkles without any
evidence of pitting or dullness. Likewise, the interior is a
cloth/leather/vinyl combination that is extremely clean without
discoloration, rips or tears. All in all, this is a car that is in
excellent cosmetic condition.
Mechanically, the car is powered by the 472 cubic inch Cadillac V8
developing 375 horsepower and an incredible 525 foot pounds of torque at
only 3,000 rpm. With that much power, the car moves effortlessly with
plenty of power in reserve for passing or entering high-speed merge
ramps. The transmission shifts smoothly and properly, kicking down
nicely when more power is called for. Despite being a full six passenger
car, it is effortless to drive thanks in large part to the famous
Cadillac power steering and brakes.
This is a car that has the full array of safety equipment in working
order, so it is ready to drive home—or across the country—in the total
luxury known only in a by-gone era. This Coupe de Ville is equipped with
climate control and the air conditioning is functioning properly and
blows plenty of cold air. The dash selector directing the airflow will
require some servicing in order to have it function as it did when it
left the factory. The AM/FM radio works properly but the clock does not.
The power six-way seat works well, allowing for fully adjustable seating
options. Likewise, the power windows add to the car’s convenience
although the right quarter window motor is in need of servicing.
This is a completely
documented car starting
with the original sales document showing the car being sold by Cullerton
Cadillac Company in Brookfield, Illinois on July 11, 1968. The original
owners manual and warranty book are included with the car as well.
Particularly interesting is the original sales sheet showing the car as
being sold to Thelma and Joseph Huse who traded in their 1964 Sedan de
Ville for the new car! There is a notebook of service records showing
much of the service and repairs done on the car during the past 40
years. Finally, the car also comes with a 1968 Cadillac shop manual.
This Coupe de Ville is the type of car that comes to the market only
infrequently:
• A beautiful car cosmetically;
• Mechanically correct;
• Very low mileage; and
• Original records and documentation since new.
This is a car that would meet the highest expectations of a Cadillac
collector, serve as a wonderful addition to the collection of a classic
car aficionado, or give a great deal of pleasure to a new entrant to
this enjoyable collector car hobby—and at a price that is virtually the
same as the car sold for new in 1968!
