Description:
For all you Chevelle lovers, here is a 1967 Super Sport that will make you salivate. Restored to its factory original specs, this 396 4-speed Chevelle is one quick car. This is not a clone or tribute car, but a true SS 396 with all the goodies. It is also a low mileage car with only 69,670 original miles.
This Chevelle was treated to a respray in the original factory color, Tahoe Turquoise; and the high-quality finish gleams brightly as if applied yesterday. The matching factory original interior color is Medium Turquoise which nicely complements the exterior. The vinyl interior is in good condition without any tears or rips. The chrome/trim is generally good with some evidence of pitting. The glass is all in good condition and the windows function properly.
This is an original SS396 which has had a correct replacement 396 installed [block #TT026EDH] that goes like the wind! The car has a 4-speed transmission (#3885010 GM) that shifts crisply up and down through the gears. Both the engine and transmission have been rebuilt. They are mated to a 12 bolt rear axle (0606B) with rear traction bars. Finally, the power reaches the road through 255/60R15 Dunlop Qualifier G/T tires (215/70R15 front). And “reaches it” is an understatement. This SS is fully capable of spinning its tires whenever you wish.
This Chevelle runs and drives properly with a surefootedness that inspires confidence. It goes where you point it, due in part to a recent rebuild of the front suspension (new bushings, grommets, ball joints, springs and shocks). Power steering and power brakes add to the enjoyment of driving this car.
All of the safety features (lights, wipers) work properly, with the exception of the horn so you will have to flick your lights as you thunder by the other cars. The amp gauge isn’t registering and the clock isn’t running, both of which will require a bit of diagnosing to determine why. Finally, the antenna needs to be installed to evaluate the status of the radio.
The Chevelle SS396 is one of the most sought-after of the muscle cars, usually favored over its other GM stable mates. One drive in this SS and you will see why. Nice Chevelles have become hard to find, and finding one in this condition is indeed a rarity. This is a fast car in a hard-to-find color with all the options you would want. You will enjoy this car from the moment you walk into your garage until you put it back in after hard run or a day at the car show. This car is so much fun that you will be asking yourself: why did I wait so long to get one?
