Description:
There is nothing comparable to the elegance of the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud series
—the model that most of us see in our mind’s eye when we think of Rolls Royces. This left hand drive model is the Silver Cloud II that incorporated the new RR V8 while maintaining the classic two headlight look that was lost when the series was "modernized" with the 4-headlight Series III two years later. If there ever was a car in which to be seen, it is the Silver Cloud! This Cloud II is finished in the very desirable Sand over Sable color scheme, accented by a red factory pin stripe that lends a jauntier look to this impressive motor car. Largely sporting its original paint, there is some crazing on its horizontal surfaces after these 47 years and it has a few parking lot dings.
The interior recently has been completely redone with fawn-colored leather that is soft and supple and, needless to say, in pristine condition. It is the perfect complement to the car’s Sand over Sable exterior. The interior wood is in good condition but has lost some of its high gloss over the years. The carpets and door panels are all in good condition.
This car has a very rare factory-option metal sliding sunroof that provides a large open viewing area on nice days and a weather-tight barrier on cooler days. As befits such a grand vehicle, the car is air-conditioned and the system has been recently serviced and works properly. It is equipped with power windows (which all function properly), power steering and power brakes. The Cloud has its original AM/FM radio which also functions properly as does the electric antenna. Unfortunately were are unable to test the famous Rolls Royce advertisement that says that the only thing you can hear when driving down the road is the ticking of the clock because the clock in this car is not functioning!
Mechanically, the vehicle is in excellent condition with the engine starting right up and running strongly without any smoking. Within the past month, the entire brake system was rebuilt including both master cylinders and all six wheel cylinders, with new flexible brake hoses being fitted as well. The front brake linings were also replaced (the rear were fine). At the same time, the engine was tuned and the spark plugs were changed. The transmission shifts smoothly, having been rebuilt about 5,000 miles ago. The odometer shows 65,500 miles which is stated as original on the title. Of course, the car has had regular maintenance and the oil changed at appropriate time intervals, with complete service records available since 2002.
All lights work properly as does the other safety equipment (wipers, horn, brake lights, turn signals, seat belts). The heater and controls work properly and, as was noted above, so too does the air conditioner. The wide whitewall tires are in excellent condition, having been driven approximately 2,500 miles.
This Silver Cloud is the perfect collector car:
•
it has a style that is readily recognized and always admired,•
it is modern enough so it has all of the creature comforts such as air conditioning, power steering and brakes,•
it is mechanically reliable and is capable of extended cruising at highway speeds, and•
it is a classic that can be purchased now at an affordable price just as this model is entering a period of financial appreciation.
