1958 Restored Eldorado Seville For Sale

The Era of the Finned Cadillacs 

Cadillac embraced the new “fin” styling with grace in its 1958 Eldorado Seville model.  The cars were immediately recognizable and of course, being Cadillacs, they set the standard for elegance and comfort. 

Extensive Records 

Much of the restoration of this Eldorado Seville was done in 1997-8 and is documented by a 3-inch binder full of receipts.  Some additional work was done in the intervening years (e.g., engine and transmission rebuild, repaint, etc.).  Please see the picture of the restoration book that we have posted. 

Attractive in Every Way 

·        Paint and Chrome 

The first thing that jumps out about this Eldorado is its brand-new (October 2011) red finish accented with its white vinyl top.  It is a color-change repaint that has just been completed. As with most 50-year old cars, the Cadillac shows evidence of some rust repairs successfully completed over the years.  This car is now ready for cruise-ins and the local show circuit. 

The chrome is in good to very good condition, as is the stainless steel trim.  The brightness of the chrome/stainless combined with the red exterior paint makes this Cadillac an attractive—and eye-catching—car indeed. 

·        Interior 

The interior is in good to very good condition.  The upholstery is red leather and appears to be free of tears or seam separations.  Sitting in this luxurious Eldorado is as pleasant as sitting in your favorite easy chair. 

Again, as one would expect, the dash and instrument panel are all in good condition.   There is, however, a crack in the steering wheel.  All of the gauges work except the temperature gauge, as does all of the safety equipment with the exception of the horn and high beams. 

The front seat is equipped with a power bench seat, but the power seat is not functioning.  The windows are power and all operate with the exception of the power vent windows which seem to prefer opening as opposed to closing and the front passenger side window that doesn’t want to go down the last couple of inches.  Some of the switches will need cleaning (likely from lack of use) to get them to operate properly.  The windshield has a slight stone chip on the left side together with some scratches. 

This Eldorado is also equipped with Cadillac’s autronic eye—an automatic headlight dimming mechanism that senses on-coming headlights—which appears to require some attention as does the air conditioning which is currently not blowing cold. 

·        Rebuilt Mechanical Systems 

The Eldorado has a 365 cid V-8 that was rebuilt approximately 250 miles ago.  It is equipped with 3 2-bbl carburetors but currently is operating only on its center carburetor.  The engine starts right up and runs smoothly. 

The Cadillac Hydra-Matic transmission was rebuilt at the same time as the engine (250 miles ago) shifts smoothly. 

The power plant and transmission operate as one would expect of such a recent rebuild.  The receipts for both rebuilds are available for inspection and—along with the other 3+ inches of records—will be part of the sale of this great American classic. 

Stepping into the Lap of Luxury 

Simply put, this Eldorado coupe can’t help but remind you of what true American luxury cars from the ‘50’s were really like.  Big and stately vehicles with a flair that could be recognized by everyone as you motor down the road.  A luxurious interior that enveloped you in comfort and the rich smell of leather.  And a suspension that made bumps and railroad tracks disappear.  This car takes you back to that era along with everyone else that sees you cruising down the highway or around town.
