Description:
Here at the Classic Car Center we pride ourselves on offering top
quality classic cars to our customers; however periodically one comes in
that is a cut above the others. That is how we would describe this 1968
Olds 442 convertible—a cut above even the nicest 442s. Having traveled
less than 11,000 miles since restoration, this car is a strong and
reliable performer. Recently sold at Barrett- Jackson in Palm, this 442
combines extremely nice cosmetics with a muscle car that is a pleasure
to drive: tame until you ask for power and then blindingly quick!
Impeccably finished in Provincial White with the black Rally Paint
Stripe and no nicks, dings or dents, this car stands up to the closest
inspection. The interior picks up the exterior color scheme and is
finished in black. Likewise, the almost new top with a glass window is
also black. The dash actuated power top works properly and quickly. All
in all, this is one very classy 442.
Under the hood is a 400 cubic inch V8 with a force-air induction system
but this is NOT a W-30 car. The engine is mated to the turbo 400 hydra-matic
transmission with a console-mounted shifter and an anti-spin rear axle.
The engine and transmission were rebuilt during restoration and both
operate as they should.
Options on the car include:
• A force-air induction system
• Turbo hydra-matic transmission
• Ultra-high voltage ignition
• Anti-spin rear axle
• Heavy duty performance axle package
• Superlift rear shock absorbers
• Heavy duty radiator
• Power steering
• Power brakes
• Power antenna
• AM-FM radio
• Stereo tape player (needs servicing)
• Tic-Toc-Tac
This 442 convertible is a California-built, Arizona-kept, rust free car
that has been well-cared for and nicely restored. The engine runs
perfectly and the transmission shifts smoothly, making the car a joy to
drive. And just as the drive train brings this car quickly off the line,
the brakes are equally impressive in bringing it to a straight stop.
This is an exceptionally tight convertible, with no rattles, thumps or
squeaks.
All of the safety equipment (lights, wipers, horn, turn signals) work
properly and the car has four almost-new P225/70/14 BF Goodrich Radial
T/A tires mounted on Olds super stock wheels. One has to look for
imperfections that other than on a show car are present in every
vehicle. This 442 has a couple of separations in the steering wheel rim,
the door and interior quarter panels are original and in good but not
perfect condition, and it has been too warm to know whether the heater
is functioning properly, although the fan will probably need servicing.
This is a car that is ready to go where you wish in style, comfort and
speed. If you are a 442 collector or just always wanted one of these
high-performance cars, look no further than this Barrett-Jackson
beauty—you are unlikely to find one better.
