—yet eye-catching—exterior finish. The gold and black paint job is first rate and so distinctive as to earn the car the name of GoldenRod. This is a steel-bodied car with fiberglass fenders, giving it a solid feel whether driving down the road or shutting the doors—all three of them. That is the second thing that is distinctive about this rod: it has a rear door that swings open to provide easy access to a fully-carpeted storage area. Upon entering the car, one finds it fully finished with tan upholstery on the high-back seats, trimmed with black. The inside door panels and headliner were custom-made of the same tan fabric. The carpeting is black, matching the seat trim. All in all, this is a well-finished street rod.Open the hood and the chrome on its rebuilt 350 cu/300 hp engine looks as fresh as the 2000 miles its odometer states. There is an Edelbrock 4 bbl carburetor and manifold, as well as headers that link up to dual mufflers to give a satisfying growl at idle and a roar under full power. A fully rebuilt Turbo 350 automatic transmission brings the power to the coil-over Ford 9" rear. The manual front disc and rear drum brakes bring it safely to a stop. Not only is this rod nice to look at, but it has all the power and quickness that one could want.
Yet unlike other street rods we have driven without power steering, it is a driver’s delight as it tracks steadily and smoothly down the road. The engine starts right up and runs smoothly, and the transmission shifts properly regardless of the power curve. The Pete & Jake 4 link front suspension and reinforced frame provide firmness and stability without producing a harsh ride. Put the windows down and enjoy the throb of the exhaust or turn on the air conditioning and radio and enjoy a pleasant ride down the interstate.
The interior is attractively laid out with all new gauges, switches and controls. The car has power windows and a tilt steering wheel. The AM/FM/CD stereo plays through regular speakers as well as a set built into the seats. Everything from the A/C to the ah-ooga horn works as new.
